STUDENT PHOTO CONTEST

The Illinois Global Institute (IGI) is sponsoring a photo contest we hope will become an annual event!  This is your chance to share glimpses of your academic interests, research, and study abroad experience with other students, and with the rest of the Illinois community—including alumni and prospective students. We hope to feature your photos on our website and on the walls of Coble Hall. 

Eligibility: You must be a U of I undergraduate or graduate student involved in the Illinois Global Institute by having traveled with one of the centers or programs or taken a class offered by one. 

Deadline for submissions:  Friday, February 21, 2025, at 5:00 pm.

Entries: Maximum entries 10 per person. Please list category in the comments section.

  1. Cultural snapshot
  2. Landscape/Nature
  3. Work and places of work
  4. People/Community
  5. Social problems or conflict

Photo requirements: 

  • Your submission must be a high resolution JPEG file. Most photos taken by recent smartphones would qualify.
  • You must be the sole creator of the photo.
  • You may artistically enhance the images (fuse, overlay, double exposure, juxtapose, etc.).
  • Your photo must be appropriate, respectful, and non-offensive (e.g. no alcohol or nudity).
  • No identifiable person under 18 should be in the photo.
  • Photos taken in public places preferred (especially if including identifiable people).  

 Judging and prizes

 The top five submissions in each category (25 total) will be selected as finalists by IGI staff and will become visual representations of IGI on its webpage, social media platforms, and as well as in frames on the hallway walls of Coble Hall. 

 The creators of the photos chosen as finalists will win a $30 gift certificate or equivalent.

 The fine print

If your photo wins, we will ask you to sign a release form giving the U of I permission to use your photos for promotional and editorial purposes. The Department of State also maintains a list of safety and security suggestions regarding photography abroad, please review them here.
