The Illinois Global Institute (IGI) and its area and global studies centers and thematic programs mourn the unexpected and untimely passing of our very dear colleague, Dara Goldman. Dara was a Professor of Spanish, Director of the Program in Jewish Culture & Society, and a longtime member of multiple centers in IGI. She served as Director of the Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies (CLACS) from 2005-2006 and again from 2011-2016. Dara exemplified the very best qualities we hope for in our colleagues: commitment, support, integrity, intellectual vision and clarity, and collaborative spirit. However, Dara’s impact on the campus and broader community far outstripped what formal titles and affiliations indicate. She will be remembered as much for her laughter and by many as a cherished friend. Dara’s passing leaves a gap that is impossible to replace.

May her memory be for a blessing.

A memorial site has been created for Dara and can be visited here.
