Body

Illinois Global Institute, in conjunction with Humanities Research Institute (HRI), will host a series of events that reflect the HRI’s 2020-21 research theme, The Global and Its World. The theme puts a spotlight on our connections and the threads that weave in and out of society, regardless of where you are in the world. Those connections are critically important in this time where more work, research, and personal networks are being hosted on-line. Engaging students with a global theme provides education opportunities that take them far beyond the Urbana-Champaign campus.

The first IGI hosted event was an on-line presentation, The Volatile Market for Globalization, on 2 October 2020. The presenter, Arjun Appadurai, is a member of the Steinhardt School of the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University. The video of Prof. Appadurai’s presentation can be found on The Global and Its World video channel.

IGI will co-host a screening and panel discussion of the documentary film From Here on 12 and 13 April 2021. A workshop with Director Christina Anotonakos-Wallace is scheduled for 14 April. The panel discussion will include the documentary filmmakers. For more information about the film and to register for the screening, Q & A session, and workshop with the director, please visit From Here.
