Edward A. Kolodziej, professor emeritus of political science and founding director of the Center for Global Studies, passed away at the age of 91 on Jan. 18, 2026.
As the founder and former director of CGS from 2000-2016, Kolodziej provided the vision to pursue new forms of interdisciplinary research, teaching, and public engagement to pose and answer the multiple problems facing a rapidly growing and increasingly intertwined global population. He also contributed to the founding of the Program in Arms Control and Domestic and International Security, where he served as director from 1983-1986 and again from 2010-2016.
