Illinois Scholars at Risk Program

Global challenges, political turmoil, and natural disasters have dramatically impacted the ability for our international colleagues to engage in scholarly pursuits within their own countries.  Through our partnership with Scholars at Risk (SAR) and the Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF), the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has committed to supporting scholars who are facing severe threats to their lives, freedoms, and well-being.

The Illinois Scholars at Risk (ISAR) Program Committee helps match SAR-affiliated or IIE-SRF scholars with departments or campus units interested in hosting a scholar at risk for a year-long visit. Campus units and departments may also nominate a scholar at risk they have already identified. The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has made available matching funds to support departmental and college efforts.
